Raspberry Pi Doorbell & Letterbox Automation Project

Posted by Livehouse Automation on

This was the first major Raspberry Pi (rPi) automation project I embarked on and learnt many things along the way. This project was initially born out of a need to have an outdoor waterproof doorbell. There weren’t many on the market at the time and those that existed: Couldn’t be integrated into my existing Z-wave home automation system; Weren’t weather/waterproof Only had one function (doorbell only) and no other functions like camera; and If camera existed, it has a very low resolution. The below figure shows the internal side of my external fence that houses the Raspberry Pi, doorbell and...

Vera Controlled Reticulation and Pool Level Control - Part 3

Posted by Livehouse Automation on

In part 3 of the project, I cover the physical installation and plumbing of the Pool Level Control system.

As this is a retrofit to an existing pool, let's just say the pipework isn't "elegant". If you were installing a new pool, you could streamline and simplify the layout. The fact that it's even possible to retrofit this system is down to the smart home control over the reticulation.

Vera Controlled Reticulation and Pool Level Control - Part 2

Posted by Livehouse Automation on

In this article we look at how to leverage Vera and our Arduino/MySensors controlled reticulation to manage the water level in the pool, monitor acid tank level and control valves or lighting.

Vera Controlled Reticulation with Arduino and MySensors - Part 1

Posted by Livehouse Automation on

In this blog I'll cover the Arduino based Reticulation Controllers I've built as part of the journey to getting my pool to automatically fill itself. In addition I no longer have to worry about sprinkler bans, weather forecasts or putting my beer down if the lawn looks dry. Project Objectives: Reticulation fully controlled by Vera Run times for stations obtained from Vera Automatic adjustment of run times based on time of year Disable sprinkler operation based on actual and forecast rainfall Automatically enforce Winter sprinkler ban schedule for Perth Manual on/off control from Smartphone for ad-hoc watering  Easy retrofit to...

Make your own Arduino Wi-Fi Pool Acid Level Sensor for Vera

Posted by Livehouse Automation on

This Blog Article is courtesy of one of our customers, who wins a $50 store voucher for his story. This is a great example of using inexpensive Arduino components to build a sensor that you can't buy off the shelf. It's also a good demonstration of how Vera can work with just about anything, not just Z-wave devices.   Pool Acid Level Sensor - Jeremy Goodchild, March 2017 If you have a pool and are constantly checking the acid container to see if it’s low or needs replacing or filling, you understand the pain and motivation for this project.I basically wanted...
